The Salvation Mountain is located in Niland, CA. It can be found in the lower desert of Southern California in Imperial County, just east of Salton Sea and about an hour from Palm Springs. Leonard Knight built it as tribute to God and to pass along a simple yet powerful message; Love. The Salvation Mountain is 50 feet in height and was made of local clay and donated paint. Leonard Knight, a New Englander, spent about three decades painting and building this wonderful sculpture. He lived in the back oh his truck, sharing his small space with a large group of cats with no names, in the brutal desert heat and winds. He stated he would not want to live anywhere else. I was sad to hear he passed away back in February at the age of 82.
For those who make the drive out to Southern California, i highly encourage you to pay a visit to The Salvation Mountain. Photos cannot even express how truly amazing and inspiring it is.
"I'm happy here in Slab City
Old Hobo road is dead
Those iron trees and I are the same
We've both got roots so deep"
-Leonard Knight

The Wild Nomads I: Deserted

As I have mentioned a couple posts back, my good friend Madeleine and I went on a road-trip out West during spring break. On the very first day of our adventure we had accomplished so much. We started out the by making the best sandwiches in the world (which we devoured during the first leg of the drive) and stopped at the border to take the cliche photo underneath the "Welcome to California" sign. A couple hours in, we stumbled across the beautiful Imperial Sand Dunes and of course, we had to illegally park the car for a little photo session. Because of the time constraint, we had to jump out and shoot in whatever we had handy as most of our clothes were stuffed in giant suitcases. You know, we just wanted to have options... Lots and lots of options.
After 15 minutes spent running around in the sand, the adventure continued as we made our way to the next stop; The Salvation Mountain. Be sure to check back for the rest of the photos from our trip! There are so many- from digitals, polaroids, to disposables. We're just huge photo junkies.

Point Bonita Lighthouse/ Marin Headlands

Today we decided to checked out Point Bonita lighthouse in the Marin Headlands. It's just over the Golden Gate Bridge but took us about an hour to get there since we got caught up in traffic on the way. Once you get to the bridge the drive is a total breeze and the scenery is amazing. Crossing the Golden Gate is always fun, but the drive through Sausalito and up through the Marin Headlands is wonderful. The weather was perfect, my playlist was on point (as always) and everything was perfect up until i reached the porta potty but we don't have to go into detailed about that. The lighthouse is fairly small but the view of the ocean, the city, and the bridge all together is amazing. There are also little abandoned buildings covered in graffiti right next to the lighthouse, i definitely recommend checking those out while up there!
